The Wardrobe Archives is a collection of objects and records contributed by women as part of a larger site-specific project, Five Domestic Acts, staged within a residential home. Each participant filled a standard box with items representing their interpretation of womanhood and domesticity—including ephemeral lists, confessional texts, personal letters, and objects of personal significance.
The archive is activated through an improvisational dance performance where the performer navigates the home to express the conflicting emotions inherent in the role of the female carer. By interrogating the domestic setting and these personal collections, the performance transforms the residential space—and the wardrobe in particular—into a site of research and inquiry into invisible labor and memory.
Performance by Heather Arnett (Kristin Damrow & Company). Full list of contributors available in the project documentation.
Medium: Social practice, site- specific installation, found objects, and improvisational dance.
