The Cubberley Project uses field research methodologies to compose oral histories, collect objects and document experiences in order to make visible the invisible social fabric of an urban community center. Selected by the City of Palo Alto Public Art Program and awarded the Oakland Stock grant by public vote, the project activated the Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto.
The collected audio interviews and visual documentation compose a series of site-specific installations that include oversized murals and audio. Every element, from the voices and projects to the captured objects and spaces is sourced directly from the campus. A centerpiece of the installation, The Flower Wall, is a 39-foot mural featuring the Avenidas Bloom women volunteers, who recycle donated flowers and turn them into bouquets distributed to the community. Audio interviews and text by Jennifer Lee.
